6ABC WPVI-TV PHILADELPHIA TO PRODUCE TELECAST ‘DANCING FOR A CURE – LIVE FROM THON™’

Live Coverage Begins Saturday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. WABC-TV New York and WATM-TV Johnstown To Syndicate

6abc WPVI-TV announced today that it will once again feature THON™, the world’s largest student-run philanthropy, for the fifth consecutive year. “Dancing For a Cure – Live From THON”will be hosted by 6abc anchors Caroline Goggin (Goggin is a Penn State alum and danced at THON her senior year.), Walter Perez and fellow Penn State alum, and meteorologist Brittany Boyer. The exclusive underwriter for the broadcast will be Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital. Each year, over 700 Penn State students commit to dance for 46 hours to raise money to help Four Diamonds fight childhood cancer. Last year, students raised more than $17 million, soaring past the previous year’s total. THONkicks off Friday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m., and wraps 46 hours later, Sunday at 4 p.m.

“THON is so grateful for 6abc, Four Diamonds, and Penn State Health for working to elevate the story of THON and the collective effort to Conquer Childhood Cancer,” says Ben Roitman, executive director of THON 2026. “THON Weekend is a beautiful display of shared hope for a cure, and a space for kids to be kids and families to be families. This community shows up year in and out for children and families impacted by childhood cancer, and I am so grateful to get to closely witness our efforts this year.”

Penn State’s THON is now in its 54th year and is a year-round effort to raise money in the fight against childhood cancer. Each spring, new student leadership is selected. During the summer, the student volunteers conduct outreach with smaller fundraising efforts and pay visits to Four Diamonds children and their families impacted by childhood cancer. In the fall, the planning for the dance marathon kicks into high gear. The students mobilize all the team captains, and THON Weekend begins to take shape.

THON is programmed and produced entirely by Penn State students. They configure the Bryce Jordan Center, build the stage, manage the concessions, and handle all the custodial duties.

All money raised benefits Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. THON’s first dance marathon in 1973 raised just over $2,000. Since then, THON has raised more than $254 million.

The program will also be syndicated by ABC7/WABC-TV New York and WATM/Altoona.

ABC OWNED TELEVISION STATIONS ANNOUNCES PRICE TRACKER APP

A Promo for the Price Tracker App Is Available for Download.

The ABC Owned Television Stations Price Tracker app is now live on digital platforms in all eight markets. This impartial, data-driven tool provides current and historical costs for housing, utilities, selected groceries, and gas by region and metropolitan area. Developed by ABC OTV’s Data Journalism team, the application aggregates data on the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. The online interactive tools allow users to search for their area and access all relevant data.

Highlights include the following:

Housing: Provides data on average monthly rents and home prices in each metropolitan area beginning January 2015 to the most recent month, allowing viewers to draw comparisons between local prices and the typical cost to rent or own in the U.S, or review changes in housing and rent prices over the past decade, and identify which has increased at a faster rate.

Utilities: Shows average monthly electricity bills by state.

Gas: Provides users with monthly regional data on regular unleaded gasoline prices.

Groceries: Average monthly prices for groceries—including produce, meats, dairy and dry goods—by region. Availability varies regionally. Audiences may also examine historical peak prices from the past decade or identify which products experienced the most significant price increases.

The Price Tracker app is available across the ABC OTV digital platforms: ABC7/WABC-TV New York, ABC7/KABC-TV Los Angeles, ABC7/WLS-TV Chicago, 6abc/WPVI-TV Philadelphia, ABC13/KTRK-TV Houston, ABC7/KGO-TV San Francisco, ABC11/WTVD-TV Raleigh-Durham, ABC30/KFSN-TV Fresno.

ABC Owned Television Stations’ Data Journalism team focuses on supporting local community reporting. In her new role, Fox will oversee the programming strategy for all non-news programs across WABC, including “Live with Kelly and Mark,” the No. 1 daytime syndicated talk show in the country. This position was previously held by esteemed television executive Art Moore.

“Mary Anne Fox brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in crafting content that captivates and informs audiences,” said Galvez. “Her outstanding reputation as a journalist, TV producer and manager, combined with her exceptional talent management skills, makes her the ideal addition to our team.”

Fox will collaborate with other department heads to develop and manage programming strategies and scheduling for the local market. Additionally, she will be responsible for leading the programming department that creates and produces local specials for WABC.

Most recently, Fox served as vice president of News for CNN, where she directed the editorial vision and daily operations of the New York Bureau and spearheaded the network’s breaking news coverage of critical events, such as the 2022 New York City subway attack and subsequent search for the suspect, the Buffalo supermarket shooting, and the Chelsea bombing. Fox also oversaw CNN’s business and legal units.

She has an extensive background in programming and field production. She spent nearly a decade as a producer and senior producer for “Anderson Cooper 360.” During her tenure, she produced investigative and feature stories, including acclaimed documentaries such as “Planet in Peril” and “Planet in Peril: Battlelines,” featuring Anderson Cooper, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Jeff Corwin and Lisa Ling.

Additionally, she reported from the field on major global events, including the 2011 Egyptian revolution, the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war and the 2011 famine in Somalia. She was part of the team honored with two Emmy® Awards for their on-the-ground reporting of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

Fox joined CNN’s New York Bureau in 2014 as regional newsgathering director, where she led news coverage across the northeast, driving impactful reporting on significant stories, including the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the protests stemming from Eric Garner’s death, and the Larry Nasser sexual assault case.

Her career at CNN started in 2001 as a desk assistant in the New York Bureau. Shortly after, she joined “NewsNight with Aaron Brown.”

Fox graduated from New York University with a degree in broadcast journalism.
