ABC7/WLS-TV CHICAGO HONORS HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH FEATURED PROGRAMMING, VIGNETTES AND AN ALL-NEW EPISODE FROM THE EMMY® AWARD-WINNING SERIES ‘OUR CHICAGO’
‘Our Chicago: Unbroken Traditions’ Premieres Sunday, Sept. 27, on ABC7
ABC 7 Chicago will mark Hispanic Heritage Month with special reports, vignettes and the latest installment of its inspirational “Our Chicago” series, “Our Chicago: Unbroken Traditions.” Hosted by ABC 7 anchor/reporter Mark Rivera and meteorologist Jaisol Martinez, the half-hour special includes contributions from anchors Rob Elgas and Tanja Babich and reporter Lisette Nuñez. The episode highlights the rich traditions, cultural celebrations and lasting legacies that continue to unite Chicago’s vibrant Latino community.
“Our Chicago: Unbroken Traditions” premieres on ABC 7 Sunday, Sept. 27, from 11 to 11:30 p.m., with an encore episode on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 4:30 to 5 p.m. and across ABC 7’s digital and streaming platforms.
Highlights include:
- Meteorologist Jaisol Martinez explores the quinceañera tradition, a cherished celebration marking a young woman’s 15th birthday and transition to adulthood.
- Reporter Lisette Nuñez examines the history and meaning of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a traditional Mexican holiday when families honor and welcome the spirits of deceased loved ones.
- Anchor Rob Elgas visits Chicago’s 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade, one of the city’s liveliest cultural celebrations.
- Anchor Tanja Babich shares her mother’s empanada recipe, a cherished staple at her Chilean family gatherings.
